Staging area up, receiving boats and lots of interest

Just three short weeks separate the crews from the start of the Great Pacific Race – The World’s Ultimate Endurance Challenge on June 2nd.  Before they are lowered into the waters of the Pacific Ocean, the boats go through final preparations, boat checks and equipment tests performed by the race support team.  This ensures that the boats meet the strict race requirements for safety compliance and redundant systems to give each team the best chance of completing the race without the need for external assistance.  This means that for a while the boats’ remain on their trailers inside the prominent staging area as the checks are completed.

Right next to the recreational trail and adjacent to the Wharf Marketplace around 200,000 visitors to Monterey will walk past this staging area in the next month.  Seeing such an interesting and unique group of boats and equipment often raises a lot of questions and members of the pubic often stop to ask the crews a question or two.  In fact we often find that crews receive messages of support throughout the race from members of the public who they have chatted to briefly.  If you’re in the area please do come down to Monterey Harbor, come and see the boats and meet the crews.
