Matthew Knight of Team Endurance Limits had been suffering from seasickness and was unable to row for a significant part of the race so far. Yesterday, his condition appeared to be improving, but in the afternoon Matthew took a turn for the worse. Great Pacific Race Control had been monitoring Matthew’s condition. The support vessel ‘Nomad’ was dispatched to the team’s position, standing ready to assist if required. Within two hours the support vessel arrived and stayed within sight of the team overnight.
At 03:00 local time on June 8th 2016 the decision was made for Matthew to leave ocean rowing boat ‘Ohana’. At 07:30 Pacific Standard Time and after daybreak, Matthew was transferred safely onboard the support yacht Nomad. The support yacht is now heading towards Morro Bay, 142nm away and is expected to arrive early tomorrow morning, local time.
The remaining three members of team Endurance Limits remain committed to rowing to Hawaii and are back at the oars and making good progress.
